For eighteen years, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was a hostage. Held on the PS3. Unavailable to those who moved on. Konami has finally released it.
The Master Collection Vol. 2 brings MGS4 to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on August 27, 2026. Alongside it comes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker — now with six-player online support — and as a bonus, the Game Boy Color classic Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. Many have never played it. This is an oversight the collection corrects.
What is in the collection
MGS4 is the final chapter of Solid Snake's story. An ageing soldier in a world overrun by private military companies and nanomachines. The cutscenes are long. They are worth every minute. This is the game that made people weep at the sight of a microwave corridor.
Peace Walker continues Big Boss's story after Snake Eater. Lighter in tone, modular in structure, and the direct ancestor of Metal Gear Solid V. Six-player co-op online is a welcome addition that the original never had on console.
Ghost Babel is the hidden gift. A top-down stealth game that understood the soul of Metal Gear completely. Its inclusion here is a small act of justice.
Release
August 27, 2026. Pre-orders are open. Those who own Vol. 1 save data receive bonus in-game items.
Kage has waited eighteen years. A few more months is nothing.
